This is one of the most common questions asked. In most cases the problem is related to both muscle and bone. As the song goes, you can’t have one without the other.
Muscles are attached to bones. If the muscle has become constricted or tight it will pull on the bones. Likewise, if the bone is displaced it will pull the attached muscle with it.
Fortunately, we address both muscular and skeletal issues by way of the manipulation and soft tissue or trigger point therapy. The primary concern is the pelvis, where the hipbones (Ilium) and the tail bone (sacrum) connect. This is the foundation of your spine. When the pelvis is unbalanced, the effects are felt through out the body, up & down, right and left.
The majority, if not all, low back problems (herniated discs included) are the result of a dysfunctional pelvis. Even a painful neck or shoulder can be caused by uneven hips. The smart approach is to balance the pelvis and also address the muscular issues as well.
