The Nervous System

The common perception of Chiropractic is that it is a great treatment for fixing back and neck pain. While this is certainly true, the reality is that chiropractors work on your nervous system, which is  encased within your spine. All of the nerves that branch out to the rest of your body first travel through the little spaces between the vertebrae.   What many of us do not realize is that the nervous system controls every aspect of your body.

When nerves are compromised, pain is the most obvious result. The lesser-known consequence of nerve irritation is dysfunction in the involved region or organ.  For example, if you impede the nerve flow to the stomach, digestive problems may occur. This explains why many patients have seen results with such a diverse collection of health problems, other than back and neck pain.

Chiropractors work on restoring the nervous system to its normal functioning state. Once this is accomplished, the various systems of the body will resume their proper function.  To summarize:

  • Proper muscular-skeletal alignment eliminates pain

  • An improved nervous system affects the entire body and the individual systems, i.e. digestive, immune, circulatory, etc.

  • Improved operation and coordination of the bodily systems translates into optimal performance: In other words, your body can do its various jobs better. Whether it is eating, breathing, sleeping, thinking, exercising, or managing stress, your body is better equipped to meet the challenges of everyday life.

  • The combination of improved function and reduced stress has a profound effect on your immune system. One of the basic premises of Chiropractic (and many other natural approaches) is the fact that the human body is a self-healing organism.

Under many situations, your body can fix itself, given the opportunity and the appropriate conditions. Chiropractic simply establishes the optimal conditions for the body to operate freely, by removing irritation to the nervous system and promoting maximum function of the entire body. The results can be simple yet profound.
